BEB Social Media Class Gets A Big Thumbs UP
We are (so) excited about the comments received from our (awesome) participants attending our Small Business, Summer Seminar Series.
Today’s session, the 2nd of 4, was an overview of social media. We researched profiles of the users of several platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. We reviewed unique applications such as hashtags, likes, and shares. And of course we covered ways to measure via Followers, impressions and reaches.
Our students were lively, engaged and represented so many different industries and services! Thanks to everyone for making today such a fantastic exchange!

CMS Scores Big with Direct Mail Infographic
Our friends from across the pond, Central Mailing Services, LTD out of Birmingham, UK put together an awesome infographic about direct mail using the World Cup as its inspiration! Great stats like:
- 44% of UK Adults respond to direct mail

- 1-in-3 People say they are disappointed if they don’t receive anything in the post

BEB TAKES HIGHEST HONOR
We are very excited to announce that Business Extension Bureau has earned the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP) highest industry honor, The Platinum Hermes Award. We proudly accept this honor for our entry of our quarterly newsletter, The Bureau.
This year’s competition was fierce, with over 5,500 entrants from all over the world vying for top honors. The annual contest is for creative professionals involved in the concept, writing and design of traditional and emerging media. Entries came from corporate marketing and communication departments, advertising agencies, PR firms, design shops, production companies and freelancers.
The AMCP is an international organization that consists of several thousand marketing professionals. The judges look for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry. Winners were selected from 195 categories and only 15% of the entries won top honors.
We are thrilled to receive this prestigious recognition, especially from the traditional media category and for a direct mail marketing piece. Last year we received a Gold Hermes in the emerging markets category for our Twitter campaign, @BEB-Bob. Click here to see last year’s winner.
Ron Royall Wins Lifetime Achievement Award
The Association of Marketing Service Providers, Southwest Chapter presented it’s lifetime achievement honor, The Helsley Family Award, to Ron Royall, President and CEO of BEB-Business Extension Bureau.
The presentation was made at the association’s 2014 annual convention in April. Since its inception in 1971, this award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated a long history of significant and outstanding achievement in the marketing service provider industry. It can only be won once, and past recipients select each new winner. Royall is a second-generation Helsley Family Award recipient as his father, Robert “Bob” Royall, founder of BEB-Texas, was presented the honor in 2001.
BEB is a family owned, marketing production company, founded in 1949 and located in the museum district of Houston, Texas. Ron Royall earned his degree in accounting and finance from Texas A&M in 1984 and started his career as a tax accountant with Arthur Andersen, the largest accounting firm in the world at the time.
Returning to the family business to help with a transitional period in 1991, Royall grew the business by upgrading the company’s computer system, expanding service offerings and constructing the financial arm of the creation of BEBdata. BEBdata is one of the largest consumer bankruptcy data compilers in the U.S. today.
Bob Royall, turned over the reins as CEO to his son, Ron, in 2007 to lead the company and face the challenges surrounding the recession. Under the second-generation Royall, the company has grown. Revenues increased by 15%, expanding service offerings now include strategic marketing plans, analytics, and full service printing which includes offset, digital, and wide-format. A leader in social marketing media, BEB has received multiple awards for their social media, video marketing, and direct mail campaigns.
Calculating Your Return
Not only do we sell direct mail marketing, we also use it. Why? Because it works. Figuring out how well it works can sometimes be a challenge. Make sure you review the whole picture and don’t be blinded by what may seem like a light return.
We conducted a prospecting campaign targeting churches in our area. We sent two postcards over a 3 week period to the same recipients.
The graphics we used for our 6 X 9 postcards reflected multiple generations and cultures, and conveyed a very simple message. Use direct mail to invite your neighborhood to worship in your church.
The mailing brought 3 new clients or .56% of our universe; which seems like a very low return! That’s because it’s only part of the equation.
The campaign generated $4,450 in new business within 30 days of the first mailing. The retail charges associated with mailing both cards, including postage is $1,530 which equates to a $2,920 return. We anticipate the new clients will generate an additional $9,000 in revenue over the course of the first year.
